Lee
Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of football scholarships for his parents and a commitment in the local community. His first family is that he's the youngest out of nine kids raised by Eufala through Lucious Selmon. In football, he played with three of his brothers from Oklahoma. Three brothers all made All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi award as the best lineman in the country. He was awarded two championships as well as the score was 32-1-1 over his three seasons as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. In 1975, Selmon was awarded his third scholarship and was recognized as a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon graduated with a diploma from the University of California, Berkeley. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout college. He settled down in Tampa after graduation, and playing for the Buccaneers for nine years and played three times in the all-pro league. The business venture he started began. The year 1988 was the first time he began working as an Account Relation Manager at First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that The Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as among the most prominent young men across the nation. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds during his time playing college football. In 1975, he led the squad. In 1993, he was named associate director of the University of South Florida. He has been inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
