Kelly Clarkson became the personification of the American Dream when she won the first season of American Idol. Clarkson conceived the notion that you could be no matter where you are, and then became a superstar with something tangible American viewers could cling to and most importantly purchase. Her first album was a massive success, but after switching to a different label, and taking greater control over her music the second album was the best-selling album by any "American Idol" participant. Her successes include extensive tours and recording a number of Top Ten songs, publishing two multi-Platinum albums and acting as a mentor and co-writing much her songs. She also has several distinctions. She's won four American Music Awards, twelve Billboard Music Awards, two Grammy Awards, and three MTV Video Music Awards. Her nominations and wins for major music awards are 98 to date.
